In our last post, we’ve discussed HOW FRET HAS EFFECTS ON GUITARS.

Let’s find some mostly used fret dimensions.

Famous guitar brands have their special model for frets, for example, Fender defines the largest fret wire available (.110″ x .055″) as 6100 Jumbo, modern narrow and tall fret (.090″ x .055″) as 6105, all differs on specifications for different style.

As for MIUfret, we use the following table to show data.

A and C are mainly for the crown which can be seen clearly.

The crown width, A, wider crown provides more surface area for finger contact, potentially offering better control and stability while fretting notes. However, wider frets may also require more finger pressure to achieve clear notes, and they can make bends slightly more difficult. Conversely, narrower frets may feel smoother for bending but could feel cramped for some players. Ultimately, the choice of fret width is a matter of personal preference and playing style.

C,The crown height of fretwire impacts the action, playability, and tone of a guitar. Higher crown frets can offer a smoother playing experience, allowing for lower action without buzzing. They also provide more sustain and clarity to notes, as the strings have more clearance between the fretboard and the frets. However, excessively high frets can make bending strings more challenging and may require more finger pressure. Lower crown frets, on the other hand, can facilitate easier bending but may sacrifice some sustain and clarity.

D,E and F are under the fingerboard slot which the guitar crafter need to consider.

D, consider the depth of the tang for stability and longevity. Deeper tangs provide more secure placement but may require more effort to install.

E and F, ensure the tang width matches the slot width in your fingerboard for a proper fit. Narrow, medium, and wide tang widths are available to accommodate different fingerboard slots.
